Commissioning a papercut

Paper-cut artworks are individually hand drawn and hand cut and therefore each one is totally unique. Whether you’d like to commission a papercut artwork for yourself or for a gift, ordering a paper-cut from Pencil Pen Paper is easy !

1. Deciding on the subject

You can contact me (Jane) by either sending an email enquiry via my website’s Contact Us page, or you can text or call me on my mobile 0414 722 328. We can then discuss what sort of paper-cut artwork you are interested in commissioning – the subject, style, size, colours, any required lettering and so forth.

If you have a particular subject in mind, such as a portrait of a house or favourite building, a person’s face, a pet portrait, or a particular animal or plant, for example, you can send me either printed or digital images.  I will then discuss these aspects with you and provide a quote for the work.

For decorative or illustrative types of works I can do a quick sketch for you to review at that time.

2. Preparing a quote

I will discuss the commission with you and provide you with a verbal quote (or written if you prefer) for the artwork, and an estimated completion date.

Pricing depends on the complexity and size of the work. Works typically range from $80 – $250 for unframed works. I am happy also to discuss framing with you if you’d like me to do so.

3. Payment of deposit and commencement of work

Upon acceptance of the quote, I will require a deposit for the work to cover materials and the first stages of making the artwork. This deposit is not refundable. I will provide my bank details for you at this time.

Once I have received your deposit, I will begin work on your papercut, and, upon completing it, will email you a photograph for you to review. If you require any changes to the papercut at this stage, I will discuss these with you, make any agreed changes, and email you an updated photo.

If you would like photo updates of the work in progress, I am happy to email you updates during the process, so that you can see how it is shaping up. Alternatively, you might like to wait to see the finished work as a surprise !

4. Completion of the work and payment of remaining balance

Once you are satisfied with the completed work, I will make arrangements with you for collection or postage (or a couriering) of the portrait, depending on your preference. At this stage in the process, final payment of the outstanding balance, plus any postage (courier charges) is required. Postage or couriering costs are in addition to the cost to make the papercut artwork.

Terms and Conditions

  1. All enquiries and discussions about commissions are free of charge.
  2. A small deposit is required and is to be paid prior to my starting your commission. The deposit is non-refundable.
  3. Minor adjustments to the artwork are included in the agreed price (providing that the original order details do not change).
  4. Artworks can either be collected or delivered by hand (for local commissions), posted, or couriered to you. If mailed, they will be posted flat with appropriate packaging protection, and sent by registered post via Australia Post. Alternatively they can be couriered to your address if you prefer, with appropriate protective packaging.
  5. Postage and packaging costs are in addition to the quoted cost for the artwork. I am happy to provide indicative delivery costs to you at the time of preparing the quote.
  6. Mount-boards and/or framing for paper-cut works can be included in the overall quote depending on your preference. However, many customers choose for the work to be unframed so that they can select their own frame later.
  7. Full payment is due once you are satisfied with the artwork, including any postage or courier charges.
  8. All CDs or printed photographs will be returned to you.
